Lower House marriage survey still open
While the Senate inquiry into Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young’s marriage equality bill has closed, showing overwhelming support for the issue, a parallel House of Representatives survey on same-sex marriage closes on April 20.
With counting continuing, more than 50,000 supportive submissions were made to the Senate inquiry, while it is expected that submissions against will fall significantly below that number.
However, the survey on the two marriage equality bills before the House of Representatives is running at only 54 percent in favour of the bills and 45 percent against, with close to 65,000 responses so far.
Australian Marriage Equality national convenor Alex Greenwich said completing the House of Representatives survey was just as important as making a submission to the Senate inquiry.
“Everybody who made a submission to the Senate inquiry should make sure their voice is heard through the House of Representatives survey as well,” he said.
“If we can get both these inquiries to recommend the bills based on a huge response in favour of the issue, that will put marriage equality in the best place it has ever been in Parliament.”

Where do I start, lets see now.
(1) “GOD” did not invent marriage… do some research! the church utilised this like many of its other things as one of its many ways to terrorize the people into doing what they believed to be correct. ie Burn in hell etc etc. and yes I use the word terrorism it is what Christianity does best.
(2) There are many marriage references well before your Christ even existed. 1790BC, these were purely contracts for the price of their daughter….
(3) The Marriage Act was written by man not your “GOD”. This Act is a piece of law not a religion, written by politicians not religious leaders so really butt out of what will not effect you.
(4)I have not found any where that it states that GOD is against homosexuals, only third party references, that have been translated many times in many ways…….
(5)Yes, as an act of law we are being discriminated in many ways, ie one that comes to mind, how would you like not to be able to have a say if your partner was on deaths bed…
(6)Many gay couples have and are having children, why because they want children, not because of marriage and they will continue to do so regardless, unfortunately their children wont have the same security and protection as yours! But I assure you they do have love and hell of a lot more than most children out there!
(6)I having the same legal protection with my partner as you do with yours will not effect you one bit, again butt out of what will not effect you.
(7)It clearly states in the Australian Constitution that matters of religion cannot and must not be forced by law…. ie why are you wasting your time with the GOD argument…come up with something a little better. Oh that’s right, there is no legitimate reason why!
(9)You want to talk about the sanctity of marriage. Over 50% of first marriages end in divorce, 67% of second marriages end in divorce, and nearly 74% of third marriages end in divorce. You don’t want marriage equality, how about we make it a criminal offense for adultery. Say 100 lashes and a year in side, sounds about fair.
(8)Homosexuality is not going away, more and more people are becoming stronger in themselves to be honest about the way that they were born. Get use to the fact that marriage equality is going to happen.
You all sound like members of the KKK repeating the chorus that blacks aren’t worthy of marriage, as then like now you should seriously be ashamed of yourselves.
I only got 2 things to say here:
1) if its “unnatural” then why is it even possible to be attracted to the same sex??

Marriage is a Holy & Sacred Estate for the purpose of binding a man & woman in Godly unity for the purpose of family & future generations.
This debate is NOT about this ridiculously coined phrase: ‘Marriage Equality’. There is NO inequality to begin with. If anyone wants to be married they must fit within the parameters of what marriage is…that is open to anyone & discriminates against no one. To say that people are being discriminated against is like saying that anyone who does not fit the selection criteria of a particular job and therefore not hired, has been discriminated against. Maybe we should all fight for ‘Job Equality’…it’s ridiculous.
People are made to feel bad that they don’t agree with same-sex marriages. This is wrong. In saying that, should same-sex couples be allowed to obtain the same legal/government benefits as married couples- I don’t see why not. Maybe same-sex couples can start their own ‘union’, call it whatever they want and move on.
LEAVE MARRIAGE ALONE! It has parameters that are there for a reason and they should never change….for anyone!

I am strongly against the Bills to legalise same sex marriage. Marriage should remain always a sacred binding between a man and a woman.
