Pride to help QAHC purse

In an emergency meeting held last week, the Brisbane Pride Festival Association passed that Healthy Communities would become the first recipient of its newly created fund, the Kal Collins Memorial Community Fund.

Brisbane Pride voted to formalise and publicise the distribution of funds (after running costs) into a new fund named in honour of Kal Collins; a well known and respected member of the Brisbane LGBTI community who took his own life in 2011 after struggling through depression.

Collins was a mainstay of the community and a member of the Wickham Hotel team.

The aim of the fund is to provide assistance in the form of grants or equipment to community groups in need. The fund will be administered by Healthy Communities under the direction of the Brisbane Pride Festival Executive Committee.

The total money raised and the community recipients will be announced at the Brisbane Pride annual general meeting scheduled for September.
