Anton Enus shows his pride

SBS news reader Anton Enus has lent his support to the Rainbow Flags Over Margaret Court Arena campaign at the Australian Open today.

While watching today’s play, Enus unfurled a rainbow umbrella to show his support for the LGBTI community following comments by former world number one tennis champion Margaret Court.

“Sitting in the crowd at Margaret Court Arena waving a huge rainbow flag… was a simple gesture but hugely significant for me personally,” Enus told the Star Observer.

“This is my community. When faced with narrow-mindedness, there’s a clear choice: fairness and dignity or bigotry.

“We’re on the side of the angels on this one.”

Court recently indicated she believes homosexuality is a choice and supports so-called conversion therapy for same-sex attracted people.

The openly gay Enus has been a broadcaster and journalist for over two decades.

A sports fanatic, Enus was one of the founding members of South Africa’s gay and lesbian sports movement in the 1980s.
