Gaga does it like a dude

The video for Lady Gaga’s fourth single from Born This Way, the Mutt Lange-produced country stomper You and I, last night leaked onto the internet a few days ahead of schedule. Thankfully, after the one-scene disappointment that was Edge of Glory, it’s a vivid, sometimes confusing melange of images, stuffed to the brim with the usual Gaga surfeit of ideas (many of which won’t make much sense to anyone but the woman herself).

Gaga appears for the first time on screen as her slick-haired transman alter ego, Joe Calderone, who previously graced the cover of Vogue Japan. Gaga and Calderone even share a snog and a grope, thanks to some clever editing.

Elsewhere, the Nebraska-filmed clip tells a rather twisted love story between Gaga and her suitor/tormentor, a ripped, shirtless mad inventor who transforms her into a mermaid before going in for a bit of frottage in a bath with his scaly new creation. Frankly, we wouldn’t say no to being shackled in a barn and turned into a half-human half-fish hybrid if this gentleman was offering.
