Family First Senator recognises gay families

Gay activists have welcomed a comment by newly-elected Victorian Family First Senator, Steve Fielding, that he recognises two people of the same sex with children as a family.

Fielding made the statement in an interview on Melbourne ABC radio this morning. In response to the question: “So two people of the same sex with children … that is a family?” Fielding replied, “They are a family.”

Activist Rodney Croome hopes Fielding may now push for Family First to adopt a more inclusive definition of “family”.
