Jury finds Phelps was defamed

A four-person jury in the Supreme Court has found Dr Kerryn Phelps was defamed in an article by The Sunday Telegraph’s Piers Akerman on 16 February 2003. The article, titled Doctoring The Truth About War, referred to Phelps -“ then president of the Australian Medical Association -“ and her opinions about soldiers receiving anthrax vaccinations while serving overseas. The jury found there were three areas of the article which could lead an average person to think less of Dr Phelps. Sharon Freund from Diamond Peisah solicitors told Sydney Star Observer the second part of the defamation case against Nationwide News would be heard before a judge in 2004.
