Sleaze Porn party selling well

The Sleaze party will sell out nine days before the event if tickets continue selling at the current rate, according to organisers.

Tickets are selling at 2.2 times the rate of sales for this time last year, New Mardi Gras co-chair Steph Sands told Sydney Star Observer. The sales are fantastic.

Sands was unwilling to give an exact count but said reduced-price early bird tickets sold about a dozen short of the 4,000 target.

This year’s attendance target has gone up to 11,500.
Last year’s Sleaze sold almost 10,000 tickets, enough to make a small profit. The party is the main fundraiser for the following year’s Mardi Gras season.

This year’s Sleaze will be held in the RHI and Hordern pavilions, with the possibility of other spaces opening. The retro space remains a mystery, although Sands refused to confirm whether it would be held in the Dome or Stage 11. It’s something that hasn’t been seen before.

Something else not seen before: six local and international porn stars imported to perform at the party.

New Mardi Gras has successfully staged two Mardi Gras festivals and a Sleaze since the 2002 collapse of the old organisation.

But in a meeting in July Michael Woodhouse urged the organisation to merge with other community groups to help remedy NMG’s abominable cashflow problem.

Sands acknowledged the issue of funds remained critical but said the group is confident it will be able to fund the 2005 Mardi Gras season.

Sands also shrugged off the recent resignation of NMG’s two paid employees, executive officer Shauna McKenna and administrative assistant Christine Watts.
