Inner city gay group growing

It’s been more than six months since the Potts Point Poofs social group was founded by local resident David Rorke, and the group is kicking off the New Year with new energy.

Potts Point Poofs, or ‘PPP’ as it’s been dubbed, was started to give queer people in the area — not just Potts Point — the opportunity to socialise, meet new people and create a sense of community.

Last year’s growth is hoped to accelerate in the new year with regular catch-ups every month and the first big event of the year fast approaching — A Poofs Picnic.

“We’ve got about 25 people in the group now with more and more people interested — it’s pretty exciting,” Rorke told the Star Observer.

A Poofs Picnic will see the group gather on Saturday, February 12 in Rushcutters Bay Park for a simple picnic in the sunshine. Like all PPP events, the picnic is open to all. It will start at 12.30pm so bring some food, some friends and meet the group — just look for the pride flag and the pink balloons.

The group’s next monthly coffee catch-up will be held from 10.30am on Saturday, February 5 at the Fountain Cafe, 18 Darlinghurst Rd, Potts Point.
