Gay short film Showboy nominated for Dendy Award at Sydney Film Festival

SHOWBOY is now a finalist in the acclaimed Dendy Awards at this year’s Sydney Film Festival.

Young gay writer/director Samuel Leighton-Dore told the Star Observer that he was “obsessed with exploring themes of love, relationships and sexuality through my creative work.”

“I think it’s hugely important in shifting public perceptions of normality – and this little film being shared on such a huge platform is a big personal achievement in this long-term endeavour,” he said.

His film stars drag queen Cindy Pastel and Lucas Pittaway of Snowtown fame.

Leighton-Dore’s first book Love, or Something Like It is also being published later this year through New York-based Thought Catalog, and he has just finished directing a campaign for Baz Luhrmann’s range of Absolut Vodka.

His stories on love and relationships has be shared over 20,000 times this year in the lead-up to his book and can be found here.
