Josh Thomas meets Orange is the New Black

IF tonight’s Vivid event hosted by comedian Josh Thomas doesn’t go well, it will be his guest’s fault.

Thomas will be sitting down to chat with the creator of Netflix’s Orange is the New Black (OINTB), Jenji Kohan, for the almost sold out Vivid Ideas Game-Changers Talk Series at Sydney Town Hall tonight.

“I just have to ask her questions so if it’s no good, it’s on her. It’s really more on her to be interesting” he said.

“I want to know how she does it so good.”

The Emmy award winning Kohan started writing for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air after graduating from Columbia University. She has also written for Mad About You, Tracy Takes On, Sex and the City and Gilmore Girls.

In 2014, Time Magazine named Kohan as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World after OINTB became a worldwide phenomenon.

Thomas, who lists OINTB as one of his two top favourite shows along with Weeds, said he jumped at the chance to interview Kohan.

“I love those shows because there’s nothing else like them,” he said.

“They (Vivid organisers) asked me to do this and I just said yes, I had to.”

Like Kohan, Thomas is an Emmy nominated writer for his highly acclaimed TV show Please Like Me, but he wants to avoid asking her the obvious questions.

“I just know from my experience she’s probably been asked the same questions 70,000 times,” he said.

“But it can also be awkward when you see someone trying really hard to be creative with their questions.”

In typical Thomas style, he’s humble about the opportunity and anxious to interview someone he admires in front of so many people.

“It will be good, won’t it?”
