Star of a new generation

Star of a new generation

Hayden Tee is making the most of Mardi Gras. The popular entertainer will record his live album, Generation whY?, in front of a crowd of fans, show queens and music lovers.

Known for his musical theatre work in Les Miserables, Cats, Titanic and Little Women, Tee will be joined by the likes of Virginia Gay (All Saints) Marika Aubrey (Cabaret Celebrity) and musical theatre and Comedy Inc star Katrina Retallick.

Generation whY?, the show, is a celebration of the music written over this period, highlighting such musicians as Michael Jackson, Spandau Ballet, Cyndi Lauper, Radiohead, Stevie Wonder and many more, giving them a new treatment and using them to comment on events that happened throughout the generation, he said.

This particular performance is going to be a live recording of my new album in front of an audience along with a 13-piece orchestra and 19-person choir.

Taking place at the Trackdown Recording Studios in Moore Park, the production is set on the stage where the soundtracks for films such as Moulin Rouge and Master and Commander were recorded.

I really wanted to give the audience an opportunity to see the mechanics of how an album is recorded, he said.

The ultimate outcome of the show is that even with all the opportunities Generation Y-ers have had, we are still making the same mistakes as every generation before us. We need to realise that in order to survive we need to respect one another and our earth.

Tee will be singing hits from the ’80s and ’90s including Cyndi Lauper’s Time after Time and Billy Joel’s Fire. The show already has a performance booked in the Winter Garden under the Civic Theatre for Sunday 26 April.

In the meantime, head to Trackdown Recording Studios on Saturday 28 February.
