Midsumma Festival held its Gender Studies visual arts competition on September 2 at The Owl and Pussycat in Richmond.

Entrants were asked to reflect their experience as a female and/or lesbian in any form – from painting to stencil, street art, etching, drawing to photography, digital and mixed media.

Stacey Bennett took out first prize with her work ‘In Love’.

Bennett said her winning entry explored “emotions felt whilst in love and during times of heartache”.

She won a free exhibition which will run during the 2013 Midsumma Festival.
