Google celebrates the winter olympics with a rainbow

TO celebrate the launch of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, Google have changed their landing page with graphics depicting some of the official sporting events of the games, including skiing, bobsleigh racing and ice skating – on rainbow colours.

Below the search box, Google quoted article 4 (Principle 4) of the Olympic Charter:

“The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.”

Have your say, what do you think of Google’s subtle message? Is it a sign of solidarity with the LGBTI Russian citizens and visiting Olympians?

  1. A fantastic display of support. Makes me feel googly all over and I will always use Google in future. Is there a choice? Great work from a very public and visible company. Homophobia has no place in today’s world.
