Carnival 2013 still free

Carnival 2013 still free

Midsumma Carnival will stay free next year despite one of its major fundraising efforts falling short of $20,000.

A Midsumma online fundraiser ended last month with just a fraction of its $25,000 target, but organisers are determined to keep Carnival free.

Festival manager Monique Thorpe said they would be finding other ways to raise the money.

“Many individuals have been generous and committed to donating, regardless that the campaign failed to reach its goal,” she said.

“We take our commitment to supporting the community through this event seriously and understand the major impact it can have on many of our younger community members for whom Carnival is a chance to realise that they are not alone.

“Midsumma will attempt to seek out alternative revenue sources in order to keep Carnival free and fabulous.”

An estimated 100,000 people attend the Midsumma Carnival, the opening event of the festival.
