Ben Cohen: I’m not a gay icon

Dishy British rugby pin-up Ben Cohen talked about his popularity with gay men to QX Magazine, but drew the line at calling himself a gay icon.

The happily married father of two, who is just as famous for his underwear modeling and calenders as he is for football, launched a campaign against homophobia last week.

“We heard these stories about people getting bullied over their sexual preference and wanting to commit suicide,” Ben told the magazine.

“I’m comfortable with my sexuality … but I thought if I can help out in any way, I’m in a position where I can air my opinion and it’ll get a lot of listeners.”

That realisation prompted the sex symbol to organise the Ben Cohen Acceptance Tour, which will travel to four different US cities.

“We’re trying to support people who are being bullied and to get people who’ve been bullied to stand up against it,” he explained.

As for his popularity in the gay community, Ben wholeheartedly embraces it.

“To be honest with you it’s something that’s been going on for about five or six years,” he told QX.

“I don’t really see myself as a gay icon, but I realize I have this huge following and it’s growing every day.”
