Gaga explodes over Madonna comparisons

Lady Gaga burst into tears during an interview with influential UK music rag NME when they compared Born This Way with Madonna’s 1989 classic Express Yourself.

When asked about the similarities, mother monster denied them outright, saying “I am not stupid enough to put out a record and be that moronic.

“If you put the songs next to each other, side by side, the only similarities are the chord progression,” she asserted. “It’s the same one that’s been in disco music for the last 50 years.

“Just because I’m the first fucking artist in 25 years to think of putting it on Top 40 radio, it doesn’t mean I’m a plagiarist, it means that I’m fucking smart.”

When pressed about the controversy, the multiple Grammy award winner broke down and started crying.

“I feel like honestly that God sent me those lyrics and that melody,” she told the interviewer.

“When you feel a message to give to the world and people are shooting arrows at it… there’s no way for something that pure to be wrong.”

  1. First of all, Madonna would have had to actually write, compose, & produce the song for Gaga to actually “copy” Madonna. Secondly, if you listen to both songs and look at each category; thematically, lyrically, instrumentally, and structurally, they are VERY different. As Gaga said herself they only sound similar in the chords progression/chorus melody. And if you got by that standard alone then you can name thousands of songs that are the same with each other, most of all in the Pop genre.

Thirdly, Gaga writes all of her own material. A single mind, and a mind that has been greatly inspired by many past success artist. David Bowie, Andy Warhol, Michael Jackson, Judi Garland, and yes even Madonna. Ofcourse the single mind writing dozens upon dozens of songs is gonna show influence.

Lastly, this woman is on the top of her game (and on top of the world stage). She literally has the best damn tour in present day. It completely destroys every other music performance out there. And yes I’ve been to a ton: Bon Jovi, Rihanna & Cee Lo Green, Kid Rock, and many others, and Lady Gaga was by far the most entertaining night I’ve experienced in my lifetime.

    This Lady is Legit.

  2. I was with Gaga right up to the penultimate paragraph. “Boo hoo hoo, how dare they criticise my song when it’s so pure and God-sent!!!!” Pleeeeeeease. She thrives on controversy and this was totally a calculated move. Born This Way is a nice enough song, but not the “OMG greatest evarrrrr”. As for the comparison, there are certainly similarities music-wise but not enough to warrant attention.
