Geri Halliwell plots comeback

Christmas came early for Spice Girls fans today with confirmation that Geri Halliwell is back in the recording studio.

The former Spice Girl bowed out of the pop scene in 2005 to follow other interests – she appeared in a couple of movies and wrote a series of children’s books – but it seems the famous redhead has had a change of heart.

In an interview with Contact Music Geri said: “I’m really excited and I’ve been thinking about it for a long time and things feel right.”

When asked about her new sound, the diva indicated that she will stick to dance music – which should keep her gay fans happy.

“I’ve been in the studio and it’s going to have a bit of a dance feel to it. I love to dance and hear this type of upbeat music in clubs – it’s all going really well. I was proud of all my solo music and this is just the next chapter. It’s time to get back into the charts!”

Although never a major chart force in Australia, Geri scored eight consecutive solo top 10 hits in the UK with songs like Look At Me, It’s Raining Men and Mi Chico Latino (below).

As yet there is no release date for one of 2011’s most unexpected comebacks.

So, what do you think – does Ginger Spice still has what it takes to compete against Lady Gaga and Katy Perry or has the ship well and truly sailed?
