Madonna proves Elton wrong

Madonna has taken home the prize for Best Original Song at today’s Golden Globe Awards, having been awarded the trophy for the song Masterpiece from her romantic drama W.E.

The win acts as a rebuff to Elton John’s earlier remarks about her chances on the red carpet before the ceremony. Nominated in the same category, John – who’s been outspoken about his dislike of the Material Girl in the past – was asked about his competition for the award.

“We’ve got a lot of competition,” he told an interviewer. “Madonna hasn’t got a fucking chance.”

When the reporter remarked that those were fighting words, John replied, “No, they’re accurate words.”

Apparently not, Elton.
