Radio Gaga

Lady Gaga was the most played artist on Australian radio in 2010. In data collected by airplay monitor Aircheck, the fame monster clocked an impressive 37,0789 spins on commercial radio this year.

Fellow gay icons P!nk and Katy Perry also featured in the top 5 with 36,982 and 31,845 plays respectively.

Rounding out the top 10 are Ke$ha and Rihanna, who are both hot tips to perform at next year’s Mardi Gras after party.

Speaking of the Gras, David Guetta and Adam Lambert – who rocked the event this year – also feature in the countdown.

Notably absent are Australian pop divas like Kylie Minogue and Jessica Mauboy.

Apart from rock bands such as Powderfinger and INXS, the only local act to get any radio love this year was Vanessa Amorosi.

Ness came in 19th place with 22,640 spins.

  1. even more interesting was the fact that Vanessa was the most played Australian solo artist and the ARIA’s didn’t acknowledge her … go figure I would love to hear the ARIA officials explain that one !!!!!!!

  2. “Notably absent are Australian pop divas like Kylie Minogue and Jessica Mauboy”

Kylie Minogue’s new album Aphrodite was no. 2 on the official chart for a month but she was hardly played on radio. Why is Aussie radio not supoorting their own artists?

  3. I love Lady Gaga but…..I feel compelled to comment, sorry journo who wrote this you should do little research – for a start – AirCheck only monitors tracks using the AirCheck system, built by RCS. The main stations that use RCS and are collected in these figures are the major commercial newtwowks. Music across the commercial networks is selectd by a handfull of people in conjunction with record companies. All this article has done is add to the free domination of our free to air media these artists already receive.

This just serves to illustrate how appaling and narrow commercial radio is in Australia. Itr is tired, boring and outdated.

There are SO MANY great Aussie acts that deserved to be played – tune into 3RRR and 3PBS and maybe even late night on JOY to hear them.
