‘Roar’ date
Out and proud American ranger Ken Yasger has posted a video to Youtube asking ‘Roar’ singer and international pop star Katy Perry if she would be his date to a ranger ball on October 10, giving the singer less than two weeks to respond.
“Katy, you’re an inspiration to me in a lot of ways,” Yasger says in the video invite, adding that he’s the first openly gay ranger in his unit. ”Your music helped me get through it.”
Not only has Perry inspired this American ranger with his own issues with coming out, but she is also a massive advocate for LGBTI equality: she challenged Tony Abbott on his stance for same-sex marriage whilst on Sydney radio station 2DayFM in the lead up to the 2013 federal election, saying that if she were a registered Australian voter “I love you as a human being but I can’t give you my vote”.
