Which gay pop icon came out on top?

THE debate this year of which gay pop icon is biggest, Team Madge or Team Gaga, has been answered with the release of this year’s Forbes Rich List.

The result? Madonna is still bigger.

“Madonna is living up to her nickname: the Material Girl tops our list of the top-earning musicians by a wide margin,” Forbes said.

She earned $125 million this year year alone, taking the top spot with a few extra zeros compared to second place Lady Gaga, who earned $80 million.

Forbes compiles the list of the 25 highest-earning musicians each financial year. Madonna’s MDNA tour was credited for taking her to the top of this list, where she banked an estimated $305 million in ticket and merchandise sales.

Gaga’s Artpop album was released recently but her last tour only brought in $168 million, due to the tour being cut short because of her hip injury that required surgery.

So while Team Madge has it this year, Team Gaga might claim the title next year.

Plus, for all her Australian fans, there is a rumour Gaga will be making a visit to Australia in the new year to launch her Artpop Gallery, which will feature art designed by her ‘Little Monsters’ – devoted fans who are inspired by the singer.

  1. while I seen M last year in St Louis and MDMA was a cool album, she does owe us in Oz a couple of extra special treats .. as for GG, artpop is brilliant

  2. Material Girl indeed. For someone who banks $305 million from her last tour and still can’t afford to come to Australia, Madonna’s actions speak for themselves. Screw the fans, all she cares about is money. Gaga, on the other hand, assures her fans that she will keep coming back to Australia and sing for them, live, because she loves her fans.
