Xtina’s enduring gay anthem
Christina Aguilera’s tear jerker Beautiful has been named the most empowering gay anthem of the noughties by a British poll.
A global number one hit for the 30-year-old in 2002, Beautiful was singled out for its uplifting lyrics and the gay-friendly video.
The song has another gay connection – it was written by former 4 Non Blondes singer Linda Perry, who is a lesbian.
On hearing the news Xtina said: “I’m delighted to have been voted the most inspirational pop act … my gay fan base is so important to me and this continues my special relationship with them.”
Boyzone came second in the poll with Better, while Lady Gaga’s Born This Way placed third, despite being only release earlier this year
