Hate pamphlet men on trial

Five British Muslims are on trial for handing out leaflets saying homosexuals should be executed, in the lead-up to a gay pride event.

Ihjaz Ali, Mehboob Hussain, Umar Javed, Razwan Javed and Kabir Ahmen handed out leaflets outside Derby’s Jamia

Hanfia mosque after Friday prayers and letterboxed the area in the week leading up to Derbyshire Pride.

Titles included The Death Penalty, Turn or Burn and God Abhors You.

A fourth pamphlet, Dead Derby, which compared gay men to pedophiles, was printed but not distributed before the men were charged.

The group had also sought permission to hold a counter-protest to Derbyshire Pride but failed to apply for permits from the local council in time.

The men were “part of a small group of men who distributed horrible, threatening literature, with quotations from religious sources … which were designed to stir up hatred and hostility against homosexual people,” prosecutor Bobbie Cheema said.

The prosecution is the first since the UK’s hate crime laws were updated to include homophobia last year. The men could face a maximum sentence of seven years in prison if convicted.

  1. I hope someone screws them in jail.

It is the people like this publishing this sort of hateful material that sends a message to the bashers out there that we are fair game. I hope that if anyone was assaulted because of these leaflets; then they consider legal action against these men.
