Hotel refused double room

A Christian couple who refused to let a gay couple share a hotel room have been taken to court by the UK’s Equality and Human Rights Commission.

Martyn Hall and Steven Preddy, who are in a civil union, booked a room at the Chymorvah Private Hotel in Cornwall in 2008.

However when they arrived they were told that the hotel only allowed heterosexual married couples to share a room and that they would have to take two separate rooms if they wanted to stay at the hotel.

Owner Hazelmary Bull told the Daily Mail newspaper that she had been enforcing the policy since she bought the hotel in 1986 and did not even allow her own brother to share a room with his female partner.

“I won’t be a party to anything which is an affront to my faith under my roof,” said Bull.
