Macklin says yes to marriage

Federal Families and Community Services Minister Jenny Macklin has said she will support same-sex marriage.

The Jagajaga MP told the Diamond Valley Leader newspaper this week she believes all Australians should be treated equally.

Macklin said she voted in favour of change at the Labor Party’s recent National Conference which saw the party change its policy platform to support marriage equality.

“At the conference I made it clear that I would vote in support of same-sex marriage in the Parliament, in the event of a conscience vote taking place,” Macklin told Leader.

Labor backbencher Stephen Jones is set to introduce a private members bill on the issue when Parliament returns next month.

  1. Jenny, you must be desperate to get the Parliamentary pension. You seem to listen to the minority groups and because they make a lot of noise you think they are the majority. As the Minister for Families and Community Sevices you are blatantly disregarding the traditional family, the one that got Australia to where it is today.
