Marriage fight continues

Marriage fight continues

Victorian marriage equality activist group Equal Love has vowed to keep fighting in 2012 with another rally scheduled for May 12, the weekend before the International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) on May 17.

Equal Love convenor Ali Hogg said although the Labor Party has changed its party platform to support change, there were no guarantees.

“The platform change is nothing but window dressing if it doesn’t lead to discrimination being removed from law,” Hogg said.

She said activists plan to change tack this year with more picketing outside MPs’ offices to call for them to vote in favour of same-sex marriage.

“If we keep up the mobilisation of thousands across Australia in 2012 to demand that all politicians vote for equality, we have a real potential to win.”

INFO: The May 12 rally will start at 1pm at the State Library of Victoria. www.equallove.info

  1. I support marriage equality by attending rallies, e-mailing my MP and I’ve also met my MP and discussed why I want their support for marriage equality. Sadly few people who attend these rallies have ever contacted their MP – it is their federal MP who will vote – so you need to contact them people.
