Marriage rally welcomes Magda

Actor and comedian Magda Szubanski will speak at this weekend’s marriage equality rally in Melbourne.

Equal Love organisers and supporters have been calling on the Kath and Kim star to attend the rally with a Facebook campaign.

Rally organisers said today that Szubanski will join the event and speak out for marriage equality, along with The Project host Charlie Pickering, comedian Tommy Little, Greens deputy leader Adam Bandt, Australian Marriage Equality spokesman Carl Katter, Workers Out spokesman Ben Convey and Equal Love campaigners Ali Hogg, Louise O’Shea and Anthony Wallace.

“Magda represents all that we Australians feel is true to this country,” Wallace said.

“The ability to have a laugh at yourself, to be a loyal mate, to be a hard worker and to contribute to the community.”

The rally is part of the National Day of Action on Saturday, May 12 which will see other cities hold their own protests.

The Melbourne rally starts at 1pm in front of the State Library.
