Akermanis says stay in closet

Western Bulldogs forward Jason Akermanis has caused a stir this morning by saying gay AFL players should stay in the closet because the AFL is “not ready for it”.

Writing an opinion piece in today’s Herald Sun, Akermanis said football clubs are “very different environments” and admitted he felt “uncomfortable” showering with a gay player when playing amateur football in Queensland.

“I believe the world of AFL footy is not ready for it. To come out is unnecessary for a lot of reasons,” he writes.

“Imagine the publicity associated with a current player admitting he’s gay. It would be international news and could break the fabric of a club.

“I believe it would cause discomfort in that environment should someone declare himself gay.”

Akermanis said “away from football” he supported initiatives to prevent homophobia.

  1. Welcome Cowboy. Does your mother know your wanking while you are looking at Gay Websites? Hey I bet your all wet down below. I thought the ACL had a filter for this site. I guess not.

We are living the dream and proud of it.

  2. Hmmm this guys has issues……wait a minute didn’t I see him leaving Ken’s the other nite with the former NSW transport Minister????

Akermanis please do something with your hair before YOU COME OUT!! LOL

  3. He needs to shup his gop – unless he has something intellegent for once to say!!!!

  4. “Imagine the publicity associated with a current player admitting he’s gay. It would be international news and could break the fabric of a club.” He’s world famous in Porpoise Spit. LMFAO.

  5. It appears to me that the media is saturated with homosexuals who want to intrude on the lives of the majority of heterosexuals and influence children that its OK to risk getting AIDS and other filthy diseases because the perverts say its OK. I think its abuse mixing homosexuals with heterosexuals and homosexuals are oxygen thieves. Heterosexuals have rights too and we have the right not to have homosexuals forced on us by media and government.

  6. Even if not out, gay AFL players will still be in the teams andin the Showers with Akermanis, so why the great hype from this strange fellow.

  7. NSW Government Minister David Campbell stayed in the closed & look where it got him today.
You can’t have “off limits” zones like football or politics. The pink ceiling needs to cave in once & for all.

  8. wat a nob head! im over footy, no more! im gay and i feel totally dissapointed in the whole bloody lot of them!

  9. Mann, spot on, he has nothing to be frightened or flattered about. He has a head like a dropped pie.

  10. More proof of footballers delusions that they aren’t a part of the real world and that somehow being a footballer makes you “special” and exempt from the laws and morals of the rest of the community. No wonder they are constantly getting in brawls in public and being accused of sexual assault more times than the average non footballer.
    +1

  11. With a face and outlook like that, I don’t think Akermanis should flatter himself and needs to realise how repulsive he is to gay men. If he could be kept out of all public showers..?

  13. The AFL gets millions from the State Government and the Federal Government. Jason has brought the game in disrepute by making such stupid comments. There is a fine for this.

If the AFL does not act to fine Jason then they should have the money from governments withdrawn.

Lets face it, gay people serve in the Army and I think that is a little bit more macho. Perhaps what Jason really needs to say is, “I am not sure of my own sexuality and keep thinking about all that cock in the showers”.

  14. Maybe Akermanis is really afraid of showering with a gay football player…and not being noticed.
