Gay Games are go

In just 16 months, the 2010 Gay Games will open in Cologne, Germany.

Organisers, as well as Gay Games supporters worldwide, are working hard to prepare this great, gay-friendly city for the almost 12,000 athletes who are expected to participate in 34 sports and four cultural events. If you’re interested in attending, registering now will ease some of the cost burden, as organisers are offering an early bird special offer.

Those who register by 31 December 2008 will save 25 euros on individual Gay Games registration, a savings of almost 20 percent for most athletes. Gay Games registration is a base fee of 100 euros plus a sport or cultural event fee of an additional 40 to 100 euros.

After 31 December, the base fee goes up to 125 euros. The sport and cultural event fees will not change.

Registration ensures several things: participation in your preferred sport discipline or cultural event, a participant ticket to both the opening and closing ceremonies of the games, a one-week mass transit travel pass, a welcome package and a participation medal.

Most importantly, registration secures your place among the thousands of athletes who will experience the friendship, energy and empowerment of the Gay Games.
Thousands of participants from around the world will meet in Cologne, from 31 July to 7 August 2010, to compete and perform while seeking more tolerance towards lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals. The program offers inspiring opening and closing ceremonies, 34 different sports, four cultural events and an associated arts festival.

Participants from more than 70 countries will take part in the 2010 Gay Games VIII Sports & Cultural Festival. Over 46,000 guests are expected for the opening ceremony at the RheinEnergie Stadium in Cologne, home of the Cologne Soccer Club.

Over 40 percent of the 34 sports will take place at Cologne’s 135-acre Müngersdorfer Sportpark, the site of the German Sports University, with all other sports (except sailing) being held within 20 minutes of the centre of Cologne. The accompanying cultural program will include an International Rainbow Memorial Run, a visual arts event and choral and band festivals.

Be part of it! is the slogan of the 2010 Gay Games. The event brings together people from all walks of life, and all are encouraged to be part of it! to show tolerance. Everyone can take part, regardless of sexual orientation or identity.
