Etiquette blogger Adrian Fernand has launched an innovative response to NSW Christian Democrat Peter Madden’s anti-marriage equality truck tour — the Ice Cream Truck of Love.

Fernand plans to drive an ice cream truck from Sydney to Brisbane and then back down the east coast, handing out free ice creams to show that people should be treated the same regardless of their preference — whether that be vanilla, strawberry or chocolate.

The campaign’s slogan is “Everyone deserves the opportunity to marry the person they love, no matter the flavour”.

According to Fernand, the Ice Cream Truck of Love is a non-political, a-religious campaign to raise awareness for marriage equality in Australia.

“We all like ice cream, so why should those who like a particular flavour miss out on all the fun?” he said.

“For too long now only a certain portion of the community has been able to get hitched to the person they love, and quite frankly we think that stinks.

“What’s to say that marriage can’t be between two people, no matter their gender or whether they’re purple and covered in yellow polka dots? So we’re doing something about it.”

Fernand is hoping to fund the project, which is estimated to cost $30,000, through crowd funding and has already gathered an impressive list of supporters.
