Marriage equality advocates to protest ACL forum

Marriage equality advocates will protest outside an Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) forum in Melbourne on Tuesday June 26.

Protesters will be meeting at the CrossCulture Church of Christ, 333 Swanston St, Melbourne from 6.15pm.

The ACL panel event on Tuesday, June 26 will involve a range of conservative speakers including former deputy Prime Minister John Anderson, family law specialist Patrick Parkinson and News Limited columnist Christopher Pearson.

The forum will be held in front of a live audience and broadcast to churches around Australia.

Equal Love Victoria convenor Ali Hogg said a pro-marriage equality group will stand outside the venue to protest against the views of the panelists.

“The ACL are trying to drum up support for maintaining discrimination,” Hogg said.

“Marriage equality advocates are not going to stand by and let this happen.

“We will be protesting this event to show that it is equality that has majority support in Australia, not bigotry.”

Hogg said Christians who support same-sex marriage would also attend the protest.

“This is not about denigrating religion. It is about protesting against discrimination and those who are fighting to maintain it,” she said.
