Marrickville funds up for grabs

Marrickville Council is offering a grant of $5,000 for a GLBT community group in the area to host an event.

Funded through the Council’s Gay and Lesbian Liaison at Marrickville (GLLAM) committee, the money can be put towards any type of event. All that must be proved by the group is that they are a not-for-profit, community-based organisation with strong ties to the GLBT community in the Marrickville Council area.

“It’s an important initiative. We’re all about bringing the community together and about community development,” Marrickville Mayor Dimitrios Thanos said.

“This is a great opportunity to bring awareness to the wider public about the issues facing gay and lesbian people in our community, and to create an environment of inclusiveness where people aren’t discriminated against based on their sexuality.”

The Council has so far not received any submissions, but invites anyone to put in a proposal before 30 April.

“It’s quite strange that we haven’t had any submissions yet,” Thanos said.
