New leaders for business group

A business and IT manager will head up the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Business Association for the next year.
Scott Quine has been elected president of the organisation which has seen a significant change in the leadership team.
Other key committee members include vice-president and Lemons With A Twist director Kate Semken; secretary Tim Daly; communications director Ed Commander; membership director Richard Davies; Fruits in Suits director Mark Haines; website director Paul Lee-Maynard; finance director Stephen Marriott and queer professionals and scholarships manager Greg Reynolds.
Quine said the new committee would concentrate on the group’s two core events – Fruits In Suits and Lemons With A Twist.
“In addition to this, the board is investigating implementing a new website designed to provide increased advertising opportunities for our members’ businesses, an improved on-line business directory, and improved … membership growth,” he said
“The SGLBA is also investigating better ways to promote the true business networking potential of the Queer Professional fortnightly breakfast meetings.”
Quine said the organisation would undergo some change in the future, but was reluctant to expand on what those changes may be.
“I would spoil the surprises if I elaborated too much,” he said.
“At Lemons last month, we held our 10-year anniversary with Casey Donovan as special guest. We had a record 350-plus women attend.
“We hope our Christmas Party Lemons on 8 December and Christmas Party Fruits on 20 December will be as big as the recent Lemons event.”
Quine said the new committee would continue its involvement in the community by making donations from its Good Works fund to groups in need, as well as staging additional events in the future.
“These include new members’ networking evenings, business seminars, business awards, and dinners with guest speakers from business and politics,” he said.
“As well, the SGLBA has a yearly scholarship for gay or lesbian students completing a university business course.”
The SGLBA Federal Election Dinner 07 is at the Stamford Plaza Hotel, Double Bay, from 7pm on Wednesday 7 November. Prices are $99 for SGLBA members and $109 for non-members. Cost includes two courses and wine. Bookings close 1 November and there is no table or seat allocation. Bookings: 8354 1556 (BH) or email [email protected] with your credit card details.
