Oxford St gets arty

Oxford St gets arty

On Saturday, October 23, Oxford St’s iconic Taylor Square will host an outdoor art fair of more than 200 artworks, in conjunction with the Oxford Arts Festival.

The winners of the Oxford Art Prize will be drawn on the day, with two categories up

for grabs: landscape and portraiture. Entries don’t close until October 18, so artists still have a few days to create a work to enter into the competition. The theme is ‘Precinct postcode 2010’.

Artists working in all media are encouraged to enter, with more than $3000 of prizes to be won. Guests in attendance will choose the winner of the People’s Choice by casting their votes on the day.

Lesley Dimmick, owner of festival sponsor TAP Gallery, encouraged entrants to think about their relationships to Oxford St and its rich history — be it Mardi Gras, the street’s gay venues or its colourful drag life.
