Porn star joins Mardi Gras line-up

Controversial film and porn star, Brent Corrigan, will be joining New Mardi Gras’ Queer Thinking line-up in what will no doubt be a highly revealing in-conversation event.

Corrigan’s session, Brent Corrigan: Uncovered, is being showcased at the Seymour Centre on Friday, February 26 as part of Queer Thinking — a program of panel discussions, author in-conversations and artist talks designed to stimulate the enquiring mind.

After spending years baring all for the cameras, Corrigan will speak candidly and honestly about the controversy that has surrounded his life, his experiences in the adult industry and what’s next for a 22 year old who’s basically done it all.

Entering into the adult industry at a very young age, Corrigan was purely working to make ends meet.

Now 22, he has developed two adult companies of his own as a producer, director and even a model.

While his sights were set on the theatre and film industry, Corrigan believed his past work in adult media would forever mar his chances of becoming a legitimate actor.

Despite this, Corrigan has gone on to star in notable roles in films, such as Another Gay Sequel, as Stan the Merman, and Gus Van Sant’s Milk.

Corrigan is currently signed on for a major role in the forthcoming film, Judas Kiss, and is rehearsing for the lead in The Masseur (a two-man play about the art of seduction).

info: Brent Corrigan: Uncovered forms part of a full day of Queer Thinking sessions, which includes a study of the gay identity in Parties, Politics, and AIDS: The History of the Australian Gay Male, a behind the scenes take on photography from Gods of Football photographer, Pedro Virgil, plus plenty more food-for-thought literary and academic sessions. The full program can be found on the Mardi Gras website.

  1. Brent is simply outstanding, hes done in 22yrs what others have not done in a life time.Remember hes still a young boy,so dont point fingers at him.He has satisfied millions of people all over the world, physically, psychologicallyand emotionally which we dont understand.Iam Rajat Mathew, studying at University of QLD,doing 1st year graduation in arts, and Ive seen brent at age 16when I came to australia, and later with few of my close friends who thought Id not seen Brent.Thats how we homosapiens are we lie and do things without others seeing or knowing.I admire Brent, and wish people become more open and frank of their needs.Even now I find it difficult to disclose my feelings to many as they are in a rush to do it.Have patatience, love and understanding and become a winner like Brent.I am thrilled at Paul Mitchells comments which have come from his heart. So readers have a heart, learn to understand peoples needs and love will abound.

  2. Your “lightening rod” will need alot more that “warm support” to part from a track record of onscreen sex.

He’s only just started the process of realising that once you push that button no-one will ever take you seriously.

Your “audience” will only ever lust after you or condemn you.

He probably likes that right now. Fair enough.

But life is long, contrary to what most gay-oriented media would have us believe.

More is gonna happen to this kid than his sex DVD’s. Things that he cannot control.

It’s how he copes with these that I’d find interesting and possibly inspiring.

Right now he’ll get more “warm support” from oglers than community.

  3. Yeah yeah… sex is controversial, he is young and he’s done things that most of us wouldn’t or couldn’t do.

I’m sure Sean has many insights that would intrigue and interest us. I think the problem with most people-especially the gay community is that they think it takes some kind of super intelligence or lifetime experience to make a proper conclusion or original conjecture.

Like a lightning rod Sean’s put himself out there and hopefully he can, given some warm support, be able to enlighten and entertain in more ways than his previous enterprises.
It’s fair to say that considering he’s position he’ll have more ears than any “enlightened” but gay political speaker, and this is all the more reason to promote him and any positive personal message he can deliver on.

The first thing to do in this instance is to lend an ear, I mean if he’s in it for the fame or whatever then we will all draw our conclusions then and be done with it anyway right!

But isn’t it awesome to see someone who is so open on a sexual level (like gays attending the mardi gra) to be respected for who they are despite their passion being of a sexual nature?

We should be proud of ourselves and of Sean… go Sean~!!

  4. Bad move, and here’s why; The problem is that the AIDS/HIV rate is unacceptably high and most of Brent Corrigan’s porn movies are bare-back themed where he does not use a condom. I believe there is a link between gays who purposly take part in bare-back sex and the high level of AIDS/HIV. Perhapes if most of Corrigans movies were not bare-back themed I might have a different opinion of him.

  5. Sure, yeh, fantastic and good for him talking about his chosen career path, porn.
BUT on a serious note,I’d rather hear someone at the “Queer Line-up” who has a lifetime of Knowledge behind them and who could be a Potential Political Strong Voice for the gay community, someone who even hetrosexuals can sit back and applaud & learn.
I think that Corrigan should share his views and his “Lifetime Memoirs” for a Gala performance at a Falcon/Raging Bull non-family orientated Event, thankyou

  6. I’d go and see this guy speak about our community when he’s lived a lot longer in it. Age is a great equalizer, as they say.

At worst this is headline grabbing on SSO’s part (the story is listed under almost every sub-heading on the website, and it’s a tenuous link to label it “community” in my view).

At best the talk might (might !) shed light on the truth behind onscreen sex for commercial gain. I’ll read the reviews and buy a ticket in 20 years when this guy has a track record and wrinkles.

  7. When I saw Brett Corrigan on the cover of the gay rag I did a double take. Plenty of guys show their bodies off in porno but few have the sweet vulnerability of Brett. Great to get someone fresh down here and he’s no “porno victim”. That’s what I find appealing about him too. Perhaps people in porn are a parallel of gays in society – ostracised and stereotyped. I don’t care if some don’t like Brett – I think he’s made something out of nothing. He is an inspiration.

  8. Oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah !
Porn stars think ?? Hell, thats speculation !!
His businesses?? Owning a web-site, making DVDs ??
Very traditional – gay – lucrative.

Happy Mardi Gras mate, welcome to Australia and please take your clothes off – often !

  9. He will be perfect for that role in my opinion.

He is just a top bloke!!!!!!!

  10. Dave,

Considering you have not yet heard what he has to say, your opinion appears speculative.

It seems to me it is just as likely Sean Lockhart (Brent Corrigan) is intelligent and interesting. He has made something of himself, he’s has an unusual and interesting life, and runs a couple of apparently successful businesses, and he’s just 22 years old.

Yes, there are other ‘artists and young gay politicians’, and I observe the Mardi Gras Festival Guide gives information on them all.

If you are not interested in a particular event, well fair enough. Your comment could say that, however instead you have made some subjective and unsupported assertions, which you have inadequately justified by stating your own opinion that pornography is sordid, and that to ‘sell one’s body’ is a bad thing.

Or if your gripe is about the reporting in SSO choosing this, a headline grabber and a subject which certainly caught your own attention at least, and mine, well say so, rather than making broad and unqualified derogatory statements.

Prejudice against by members of our own GBLT community, against other members of our community, is a stumbling block for our community. I believe if we considered our and questioned our own opinions before stating them as fact, supported each other more, with less uninformed judgment, our GBLT community would benefit.

  11. Bad move.
Surely Mardi Gras can do better than bringing out a so-called POIRN “star”.
I’m no prude, but this industry is full of tragedy including drug abusxe and suicide.
Not exactly a great advertisment for homosexuality either,.

  12. I think this is such a mistake, what a boring event this will be. I don’t see what on earth this guy could contribute to queer thinking/theory or enquiry. I think its aa shame to promote this guy who has come to attention by deciding to sell his body at such a young age – its so poor.

There are so many other artists, young gay politicians participating, id like to see some more information on those people. I would like to walk away feeing i’ve had an insight into something constructive rather than something sordid like a porn set.
