It may be a traditionally urban celebration, but Mardi Gras will take on a rural flavour at this year’s Bush Dance.
More than 300 people are expected at the 25 February event, which is organised by gay and lesbian organisation the Southern Cross Outdoors Group.
Real bush dancing will be taught on the night to the melodies of live band Skewiff. The event, now in its 12th year and in a new location at Marrickville Town Hall, is about inclusive fun, according to organiser Dennis Long.
What we aimed for, and what I think that we’ve really achieved -¦ is to have something that everyone can join in, that’s got no attitude, that’s completely friendly, Long says.
His advice to would-be boot scooters? Wear shoes and say -˜yes’ to everything.
