A TRANS* campaigner will help NSW be home to the newest Australian Sex Party state branch as the fledgling political party attempts to expand its support.

Already with a high-profile in the ACT and Victoria, the Sex Party is led by Fiona Patten and Robbie Swan.

At last year’s federal election, the Sex Party narrowly missed out on Senate spots in both Victoria and Tasmania.

The NSW branch will be headed by Melissa Star, who was the only trans* candidate in the 2013 federal election, having run for the Victorian seat of Port Melbourne as a Sex Party candidate.

Having recently moved to Sydney, Star said she was hopeful there were others who saw the benefit of supporting a sex-positive party that was passionate about personal freedom.

“We don’t have many sex parties at the Sex Party but we do liven things up and NSW politics will be healthier for our penetration into the body politic here,” Star said.

The Sex Party supports the legalisation of marijuana, abortion rights, voluntary euthanasia as well as marriage equality and strong anti-discrimination laws that do not favour religious freedom over others.

  1. “Both Muir and Drupulich have managed to gain the preferences of both Family First and the Australian Sex Party, a remarkable bringing together of strange bedfellows.”

  2. No I am not a fool, but I see that you are quick to judge and name call, so much for acceptance and tolerance. See Greens Blog on the ABC website from September 13, 2013 which looks at the post election impact of the dodgy ASP preference deals “The Preference Deals behind the Strange Election of Ricky Muir and Wayne Dropulich”

The ASP are just a political front for a business lobby group, it’s well known and most political analyst agree on this point.

Their particular brand of Classical Liberal theory is applied to the right for people to purchase and consumer products made by the business behind the party, the frame this a social progress, when in fact it’s just pro-capitalism and free markets, no different the Abbott Govt.

  4. Melisa Star is scum. She blamed the friends of socialist trans woman Amber Maxwell for her suicide on social media. Then despite upsetting a lot of people with her extremely offensive comments, she refused to resign as a candidate in the federal elections.

Star is a blight on the trans movement and any progressives should stay far away.

    • As far as I understand Melissa apologised for those comments, made when she was upset at the death of another trans person.

The real scum are those feminists and rad scum who label trans people as fakers with a mental disease.

We need trans voices speaking up for themselves – not being silenced.

      • Yeah, she apologised… after hours of people going its fucked and her refusing to apologise (there are long lines of her justifying it all over Amber’s wall)… it was only the next day she “apologised,” probably after someone pointed out the political consequences of it.

Just because she is trans doesn’t make her progressive. Amber was an amazing person and an amazing trans person, whose life ended all too soon. http://www.sa.org.au/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=7867:rip-amber-maxwell-a-rebel-and-a-fighter&Itemid=508

Lets not think we should support someone who is an arse because they are trans… it does the trans cause a big disservice.

    • So you know Melissa Star, James. did you know Amber, James. If you knew Amber, why didn’t you help her? Why was she left homeless. Melissa Star and other members of the Trans community have helped numerous Trans people, if they are put in touch with their peer. We go to extreme lengths to make sure our community are cared for.

Your hate is obvious James… Please stop using Amber’s death as your political football.

      Trans Person in Perth.

      • Yes I know Amber. I live on the other side of the country. Amber was vocal in the Perth queer community, spoke at several rallies and was covered in the Perth queer media. She was available as anyone if YOU actually wanted to be in touch…

But like pretty much every suicide there are clues in hindsight, but no one actually “knows” and for you to now follow in Melissa’s footsteps and blame her friends, who kept her going through her being kicked out of home, through many of her darker moments. To blame the friends of the victim is horrible and you should be ashamed of yourself… at least Melissa was ashamed the day after.

  5. So the front for the porn industry lobby group (the EROS Foundation) is making plans for NSW?

The ASP are an joke, their Federal election preference deals with likes of Pauline Hanson and others resulted in the Senate mess we are in.

They are only really concerned with liberalisation in the Classical Liberal sense, so they can make more money out of a deregulated market, they just dress it up as being “progressive”.

    • Brendan the only joke here is your analysis of the Senate results.
It is the Greens who helped to elect Bob Day from Family First (who are much worse than One Nation) in South Australia, and it was the Greens who did a deal with Clive Palmer for preferences.
Pauline Hanson ended up a long way from being elected. No Sex Party preferences ended up with One Nation.
Who should you really blame for the mess we are in now?

The Eros Association (you can’t even get the name right) is not a porn lobby group, but represents adult retailers. Have you been in a adult store lately? Not much porn being sold there due to the internet. Most sales in adult stores are for toys and other adult items, used by every day Australians. These stores still face opposition from conservatives in where they locate. They as much as anyone deserve representation – or are you one of those churchy fuddy duddies? Most Australians have no problem with adult stores selling adult items to adults.

An open and modern Australia for all? Bring on the Sex Party.

      • Typical Sex Party supporter; bagging the Greens (yep, there the REAL enemy to a progressive society!) , making claims that are unsubstantiated (please refers to reputable sources like Antony Green for the impact of the ASP preference deals, they were well and truly covered) and then accusing people who differ from them as being “church fuddy duddies” – so much for a modern Australia under the ASP, just sounds like the same narrow minded Australia just with a different value set.

The one thing CJ is correct about, the ASP is all about business, not rights.

        • You are a fool aren’t you!
Antony Green wrote about the possible impact, before the election. Show me evidence of Sex Party votes actually going to One Nation. You can’t because it did not happen.

Unlike the votes from the Greens that actually did go to Bob Day from Family First. Facts matter – but it seems you can’t handle those.

And rights matter. Freedom from censorship – freedom from fuddy duddies who believe there should be no adult stores. Yes there are people who believe adults stores should be able to sell adult toys to adults and will join together to lobby for that. Do you have a problem with that? It seems you do.
