Trust in Toonen

The AIDS Trust of Australia has appointed Nick Toonen as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Toonen, previously a general manager of the Tasmanian AIDS Council and former board member of AFAO, comes to the position with a strong background in the HIV sector.

We are thrilled that the AIDS Trust of Australia has been able to attract someone of Nick’s calibre and skill to lead the next stage of our growth, AIDS Trust chair Robert Furle said.

Appointed the Order of Australia in 2003 for his human rights advocacy work for the GLBT community, Toonen is a respected and accomplished member of the HIV/AIDS sector.

In his new role as CEO Toonen is expected to further the AIDS Trust’s mission to increase fundraising capacities and facilitate further co-operation between the various AIDS organisations.

The AIDS Trust and AIDS councils across Australia, as well as the Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations (AFAO), recently entered into a memorandum of understanding which will for the first time enable national fundraising efforts for HIV programs and services, Furley said.

The governors are very pleased to be able to appoint someone with such great skills and a commitment to people living with HIV/AIDS and the GLBT community more generally.
Nick will be a great driver of the AIDS Trust’s Mission.
