Queens Ball is a Cabaret

liza-1Brisbane’s LGBTI gala event will return for its 52nd year in 2013 when the Queens Birthday Ball Awards takes centre stage at the recently renovated and appropriately named Rainbow Room at Cloudland in Fortitude Valley.

This year’s theme is ‘Life is a Cabaret’, one that many in the community will be familiar with. The 1970 film Cabaret will provide the inspiration for costumes and the Brisbane Pride Festival (BPF) committee encourages contemporary and traditional interpretations of the theme.

“I expect there will be a feast of feathers, a rainbow of glitter and sequins mixed with a little leather and lace. The costume awards are embedded in the history of the Queens Birthday Ball Awards and also provide a rare chance for our whole community to dress artistically or dress extravagantly to celebrate our community leaders past and present,” BPF president Deeje Hancock said.

Nominations for 13 awards are now open with voting to begin soon.

Tickets are $55 for general seating or $79 for VIP priority seating and two drinks. Both tickets include canapés and BPF members can get $10 off either ticket price. BPF member tickets must be purchased at the Sportsman Hotel.
