TRANS* activist, adult filmmaker and performer Buck Angel continued his Get Bucked Australia tour in Brisbane last week, raising further awareness of trans* issues.

After workshops and events in Sydney for Mardi Gras and also Melbourne, Angel appeared in forum that covered sexuality and health issues affecting the trans* community.

Angel was also in Brisbane to screen his award-winning documentary Sexing the Transman.

Controversy followed Angel around his tour after a lesbian publication quoted him as saying he believed trans* activism was just starting in Australia and that his visit would get people finally talking about it.

“I never said that there wasn’t any trans* activism in Australia or that it was just starting. I know to say otherwise would be stupid,” he told the Star Observer.

Acknowledging the work done by pioneering Australian activists, Angel claimed that he had been misquoted, stressing that he never overstated his role in trans* issues and the general movement.

“I only speak for myself, I’ve never claimed to speak for the community. I simply can’t. We are such a diverse group and every voice needs to be heard equally.”
