Centrelink GM on air

For those who tune into Thursday’s Rainbow Report on JOY 94.9FM, tonight is an opportunity to take part in a live talkback session with Centrelink general manager Hank Jongen.
The one-hour show will allow the community to talk through social security changes which may alter payments made to same-sex couples from July 1.

Federal Parliament last November passed sweeping legislation which now qualifies same-sex couples as de facto, bringing them in line with heterosexual couples in areas of law including Centrelink payments.
Centrelink recently launched an advertising campaign to inform the community that same-sex couples must make themselves known before the July 1 deadline to ensure they are on the correct payment.
Rainbow Report’s executive producer Doug Pollard is interested in hearing from the community before the show, particularly from people who have had dealings with Centrelink about payment changes so their experiences may be put to Jongen during the program.
Some of the issues being discussed include whether Centrelink staff are adequately trained to deal with the changes and with gay and lesbian issues.
