A fair go for LGBTI students

Reservoir High School students will be first in Victoria to undergo a new project to support young LGBTI people on and off the sporting field.

The Fair go, Sport! project was launched at Reservior High on Tuesday, August 28 with the Acting Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner, Karen Toohey.

Students will have access to sexuality and gender identity resources at the school as well as open and closed support networks.

It aims to give students a safe environment at school, feel free to be open about their relationships and encourage young LGBTI people to play sports.

A group of Reservoir High staff and students will work on the project, holding events and helping students.

Toohey said the Commission hoped other schools would get involved.

The project is a joint initiative between Hockey Victoria, Hockey Australia and the Australian Sports Commission and carried out by the VEOHRC.
