Trans conference ‘long overdue’

Trans conference ‘long overdue’

A groundbreaking conference for community members and people providing transgender care will be held on August 24 – 25 at the Cairns Rydges Esplanade Resort.

Cairns Sexual Health Service’s Dr Darren Russell (pictured) said the Transgender, Sister Girl and Gender Diverse Conference was long overdue.

“The need for better trans health care is at an all-time high,” he said.

“This conference is a partnership between the community and the medical profession so it’s an opportunity for clinicians to share and learn from each other, and to share and learn from the trans community.”

“The planning committee had gone to great lengths to ensure that the program and conference content respects the diversity of needs and issues that
represent the different members of the transgender community,” conference organiser Amanda Dean said.
