Fashanu Cup pushed forward
This Saturday’s second Justin Fashanu Cup, the annual match between Australia’s only gay and lesbian soccer clubs (Sydney’s Rangers and Melbourne’s Rovers), has had a last-minute reschedule, thanks to the unexpected AFL Grand Final rematch.
Previously scheduled to start at 1.30pm, the Cup will now kick off at 11.30am at the St George Soccer Stadium in Banksia, with gates opening at 10.30am. The game should then be finished by 1.30pm at the latest, giving everyone time to make it to the pub for the AFL.

Support the Star Observer… while you still can
LGBTQIA+ media is under threat. Queer content is censored by tech conglomerates who amplify bigotry and push out AI slop — so we receive less financial support than ever.
When our community is muzzled and intolerance intensifies, we need queer media more than ever. Your donation means we can continue paying queer journalists to write queer news.
Don’t rely on the straight lies of big tech – support Star Observer instead and donate now.
