A new gay OzTag club is forming in hopes of establishing teams ready for the 2010 Winter OzTag competition.
OzTag enthusiast Elie held the first meeting for the club last night at the Oxford Hotel where players decided which series they would enter, team names, uniforms and training schedules.
“There are lots of gay sporting teams around, but I wasn’t aware of any gay teams in OzTag or touch,” Elie said.
“I know there are a few rugby teams around, but I think this is a great alternative for those who don’t want anything too rough.”
For the moment, the concentration will be on a men’s team, but Elie hasn’t ruled out forming a mixed team if enough women show interest.
“It doesn’t matter if you haven’t played before. I hadn’t had much experience before I started,” he said.
The cost for registration and uniforms for the competition is approximately $100 per player and Elie said he hoped there was enough interest to form more than one team in time for the competition’s kick-off.
“I need to confirm numbers shortly and we need a minimum of 10 to have one team, but if we can get more than that, it would be great,” he said.

info: The Winter OzTag competition runs from the first week of May through to August. For more information, contact Elie on 0449 781 072.
