Discounting a perfunctory 2006 Christmas album, Laws of Illusion is Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan’s first collection in seven years. While she may not reach the heights she did with classic ’90s ballads Angel and I Will Remember You, this is a sturdy collection of adult contemporary songs. Loving You Is Easy is a warm, Beatlesque gem, while U Want Me 2 bears a striking similarity to Gary Jules’ cover of Mad World.
