Say hello to the Pink Directory

Say hello to the Pink Directory

Sydney will get its first comprehensive directory for the gay and lesbian community next Thursday with The Pink Directory launching at a celebrity auction at Gingers bar.

A extensive line-up of blue ribbon products, including a one-week luxury getaway to Liberty Resort in Cairns and gift vouchers from gay-friendly businesses, will be auctioned off at the launch by drag superstar Claire de Lune, with proceeds from the evening going to the Luncheon Club.

We managed to secure some brilliant prizes from local businesses, and basically the way it works is that people can bid for prizes and possibly get them at a hugely discounted price. For example, the Liberty Resort holiday is worth $5,000, but if the highest bid is $3,000 then that’s what it will go for, said Pink director Ben Heath.

The Pink Directory will be distributed across Sydney next week and lists businesses, contacts and services owned by, or geared towards, the gay and lesbian community.

So far, the directory has already generated over $10,000 for gay and lesbian community organisations including Pride, BGF and the Sydney women’s basketball team for the Gay Games.

The Directory is a commercial organisation, but it was set up so that, if we made any profit, we could give back to the community and that’s what we’ve done through our Pink Disbursement Fund, said Heath.

The Pink Directory auction launch takes place at Gingers bar on 31 October at 8pm. For further details visit www.thepinkdirectory.com.au.
