The real Charlotte von Mahlsdorff
Ich Bin Meine Eigene Frau is a documentary telling the fascinating story of East German transvestite Charlotte von Mahlsdorff, the subject of the successful Sydney Theatre Company production I Am My Own Wife. Directed by gay filmmaker Rosa von Praunheim in 1992, Ich Bin Meine Eigene Frau is based on von Mahlsdorff’s autobiography, detailing her life during Nazi Germany and then in the communist East. Queer Screen and the Goethe-Institute Sydney will present the documentary for one session only on Monday 2 October at the Chauvel Cinema, Paddington. Screening will start at 7pm.
