Wagner enters Hall of Fame

Drag queen Vanessa Wagner has been named as this year’s DIVA Awards Hall of Fame recipient.

Starting her drag career early ‘90s, Wagner has a variety of titles to her name already, including Sydney Mardi Gras Miss Fair Day 1993 and ACON Queen of Hearts 1997.

From early 1993-1996 she captivated audiences with the Jamie and Vanessa parties and stage shows. Her sell out hit dance show, Vanessa Wagner’s History of Dance, broke box office records as part of the Mardi Gras Festival in 1999.

She co-hosted the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade telecasts on Channel Ten for five years and has been a DIVA host on three occasions, the last being in 2006.

Wagner also proved a colourful and much-loved entrant on Ten’s Celebrity Big Brother.

Her performance career is eclipsed only by the enormous contribution she has made to the HIV-positive community as a host, educator and activist working with organisations including ACON, BGF, Oxfam International, PLWHA, the AIDS Trust and NSW Anti-Discrimination Board.

The DIVA Awards will be held on October 29 at Hoyts, Entertainment Quarter.
