A young achiever

The co-convenor of Melbourne queer youth group, Minus18 has been named as a finalist for the 2011 Young Australian of the Year.

Micah Scott (pictured) was named as one of four Victorians to be nominated for the top honour, last week.
Award recipients will be announced at events to be held in state and territory capital cities throughout November.

All state and territory award recipients will then become finalists for the national awards, which will will be announced on January 25 in Canberra.

Earlier this year, Minus18 won a Premier’s award during National Volunteer Week for its work creating and promoting safe spaces for queer young people.

PFLAG spokesperson Shelley Argent has also been nominated for Senior Australian of the Year in Queensland.
